CITY OF HOUSTON TAXICAB FARE INFORMATION
 |
| The City of Houston has a flat rate of $6 for taxi rides that originate and end within the Central Business District, which is the downtown Houston area bounded by I-45, I-10 and US 59. Up to four passengers can share a cab ride - and the cost of the $6 fare! For more information, please see http://www.houstontx.gov/downtowncab/index.htm |
The City of Houston regulated taxi meter rate is $2.50 for the first 2/11 mile, and $0.17 for each additional 1/11 mile ($4 for the first mile and $1.87 for every mile thereafter). People 60 and older receive a 10% discount on fares. Waiting is calculated on the taxi meter at $0.33 per minute ($20.00 Per Hour). There is an additional $1 surcharge on all trips which commence between the hours of 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
Please note: Drivers are independent contractors. They are not employed by a cab company; they work for themselves. Tips are at the discretion of the customer.
Special note about Houston airport taxi service: trips to and from Houston airports are determined by zone rates, in accordance with Houston City Ordinance. Passengers are charged the flat zone rate or the meter rate, whichever is less.

Additionally, there are at least 30 "hailing cab" icons on various downtown streets, which mark that particular site as a three-minute zone where taxis can briefly stop to pick up and drop off passengers.

ECONOMIC RELIEF IDEAS
IDEA #1: CONSIDER SHARING HOTEL EXPENSES WITH A ROOMMATE
ROOMMATE MATCHES
If you are coming to Houston from another city or state and wish to minimize hotel accommodation costs by rooming with another registrant, we can put you in touch with another registrant also interested in having a roommate.
However, making the arrangements is between those interested. We will only connect you with others with an interest in sharing rooms. That is the extent of our involvement with roommate matches.
If you are interested, please send us an e-mail stating your preference for roommates (male/female, age range, smoking/nonsmoking, other) and we'll connect you with others so you can hopefully find a compatible match.
IDEA #2: CONSIDER STAYING AT AN EXTENDED STAY HOTEL WITH A SMALL GROUP OF 2-5 PEOPLE AND SPLIT THE COSTS
